The San Francisco League of Conservation Voters -- where the environment meets San Francisco politics -- is seeking several new Board members. We are accepting nominations through July 15 ahead of this year’s election process.

Our dynamic, all-volunteer team primarily evaluates local candidates and campaigns through an environmental and good government lens. We make endorsements to educate the public on how their vote can hold San Francisco to its environmental values. We also advocate for local environmental legislation, speak at public hearings, organize events, and engage with local leaders.

We've identified the following priorities as we seek new Board members:

  • Perspectives -- Residents of SF who are interested in protecting the environment. We are also seeking a diverse array of perspectives, including residents in districts 4, 5, 6, 7, 11; people of color; LGBTQ people; and people with a physical disability.

    • District 4 = the Outer Sunset

    • District 5 = Western Addition / Haight / Inner Sunset

    • District 6 = SOMA / Tenderloin / Treasure Island / Mission Bay

    • District 7 = Lake Merced / Mt. Davidson / Forest Hill / West Portal

    • District 11 = Excelsior / Outer Mission / Ingleside / Crocker Amazon

    • (These are rough descriptions; look up your address here to find your district.)

  • Knowledge -- Environmental justice, land use, natural areas/biodiversity, housing.

  • Skills -- Graphic design, finance, social media, local political or city agency connections, fundraising.

  • Passion -- Willingness to jump in and get involved!

We meet monthly (virtually for now), and expect that our board members contribute time and expertise to the endorsement process. Time commitments vary, but existing board members regularly give between 5-10 hours per week, depending on election season.

This position is a chance to get engaged in your community, take action for the environment at a local level, and learn more about politics in San Francisco. Serving on the SFLCV Board is a rewarding volunteer opportunity as part of a collegial, dedicated group of people passionate about ensuring San Francisco has the strongest priorities for the environment.
